The season has begun!

Well it is official. The 2010 season is underway. We completed our first night of tryouts this evening and I am really excited about how things went. Not only did the talent level look good, but I was really impressed with the attitudes of the kids in the gym. With 8 guys missing due to basketball playoffs we just mixed everybody up and got a couple of fun games in. The guys were really supportive of of each player's ability and experience.

With 33 guys (Basketball included) trying out for Varsity and JV combined, it is going to be a tough selection process.

Looking forward to Tuesday's tryout.

The 2010 Season is about to begin!!

Hello and welcome to the Poway Boys Volleyball 2010 season blog. Myself and a few of the players will be documenting our thoughts here throughout the season. Feel free to post comments or questions about how things are going, just remember that negative and inappropriate comments will be removed and addressed further if needed.

Tryouts begin tomorrow and I must admit that although I am really excited, this is probably the toughest time of the season for me. We have a lot of great kids trying out this year and making cuts is the hardest part of my job. With 12 players returning from Varsity last year and a JV that had a great season the competition should be intense. Things will be a little tougher because there are 8 players currently playing varsity basketball and will not be able to tryout until the basketball playoffs are over. As much as I want those kids in the gym I hope they go as far as possible in the playoffs, best of luck boys.

Currently I plan to take 12 players on Varsity until basketball is finished, at that point I will increase my number to 15 (16 is a possibility). Some of the original 12 may move to JV at that point.

Regardless of how tough tryouts are, this is going to be a great season. I am really looking forward to working with the guys this year. Our tournament schedule is the best it has ever been: Best of the West, Hawaii, and Redondo. I really can't wait to get started, although I must admit that my wife is not as excited about the start of Volleyball season.

Check back over the next couple of days to here about how tryouts are going.
